The Inland Empire 66ers, high-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Dodgers, are accepting applications for the position of Broadcast/Media Relations intern. The job is initially seasonal, running from January through September 2010. The chosen applicant will be evaluated at the end of the season and there is the possibility of a full-time position being offered at that time.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This position is broken into three categories: Broadcasting, Media Relations, and Group Sales. The job description is broken down as follows:
Broadcasting
q Consists of calling the middle three innings solo during approximately 126 of the team’s 140 games
q On-field postgame interviews for use on the broadcast
q Co-host weekly 66ers ½-hour radio show, which will air Friday afternoons
q Assist in gathering interviews for use on the ½-hour weekly radio show
Media Relations
q Assist in writing and updating daily game media notes
q Write nightly postgame recap stories. May also be asked to contribute articles for the 66ers Inside Pitch gameday magazine, which is published three times during the season
q Maintain a portion of the team website on a daily basis by uploading postgame recaps and other fresh stories about the team
q Oversee media relation interns
Group Sales
q From January thru March, applicant will work exclusively within our group sales department, generating leads and new business.
q Once the season starts, applicant will continue to put in a few hours each day with group sales, cultivating new leads and following up on previously established leads
Skills Required
q Must have prior experience in baseball PBP, either at the amateur or professional ranks
q Must have strong working knowledge of basic Microsoft programs MS Word and Excel. Experience with Photoshop and/or Illustrator is a plus but not mandatory
q Must be goal oriented, have excellent self-discipline, good organizational skills, and posses the desire and willingness to learn. Ability to work under deadline pressure in certain circumstances as well
q Prior sales experience is not mandatory but applicants who do have a sales background along with a good CD demo will be considered over those who have the later but not the former
q Experience maintaining a website is a plus
We are currently working on the 2010 budget to determine an exact monthly pay rate for this position. In addition to a monthly salary, the team pays a 10% commission on group sales. Housing is not included but the team does have a couple of options with an apartment complex where the players usually live that offers a bit of a deal with first month free rent and a low deposit. There is also the possibility that we will be provided a furnished apartment for the season, which is on the campus of Cal State San Bernardino. That is subject to availability but we’ve been able to secure a 4-bedroom apartment there for the last few years and the monthly rate is very good based on 4 inhabitants.
Position will be evaluated by September 15, 2010 at which time future employment will be considered.

Develop marketing strategies for single ticket, mini-plan and flex book buyers

The experience of working in a professional customer service driven environment will help the candidate in his or her future career. Spending a season as part of the JetHawks organization will be great experience for any individual who wants to excel in a business environment. The successful candidate will also gain experience in a multitude of faced paced food and beverage areas from concessions to high end catering.
Position in the corporate structure: The Food and Beverage Intern will report directly to the Director of Food & Beverage and will assist in the oversight and supervision of all seasonal food & beverage game day staff.
Food & Beverage Duties:
1) Assist in the enhancement of the image of the JetHawks concessions operation, including improving service, efficiency, image, etc. This could include product pricing, improving customer service, naming the in-stadium stands, as well as many other issues.
2) Oversee and coordinate the BBQ Area & Club Section Service (including set-up and food) with the JetHawks sales staff.
3) Assist in inventory control of all concession supplies, including aiding in ordering of new supplies, equipment, and food. Complete and track pre-season inventory sheets, game sheets and post-season sheets.
4) Assist in the hiring and training of game-day concession workers. Assist in the oversight of all concessions management and all concession workers and stadium employees, which includes tracking of hours/pay, customer service updates, and scheduling.
5) Help reduce employee and operations costs by keeping daily waste and comp sheets.
6) Along with the Director of Food & Beverage, research and implement new concession ideas, including but not limited to: new food items, new food stands, and pricing.
7) Assist in controlling costs & expenses for employees, food & other expenses.

Job Duties:
Merchandise:
1) Assist Director of Community Relations and Merchandise with ordering and choosing what items the JetHawks will carry in their team store during the 2009 season.
2) Track and catalog all orders in the JetHawks team store.
3) Responsible for processing and sending all orders from the JetHawks online store.
4) Help set up displays in the store to maximize sales potential.
5) Assist with the day-to-day operations in the JetHawks team store and handle any complaints, suggestions, or comments from fans and ticket holders.
6) Assist with monthly inventory of team store and teach other front office staff the how to use the new Point of Sale System.
7) Monitor customer trends within the store to maximize merchandise sales.
Community Relations:

1) Assist in the execution of activities within the JetHawks promotions department, including all game day promotions and set-up of all necessary promotions areas for all events at Clear Channel Stadium (i.e. Fun Zone inflatable games, on-field props, etc).
2) Assist in the development of game day scripts and outlines for each JetHawks game.
3) Ensure all necessary promotions props, give away items are properly maintained and ready for each home game.
4) Oversee the organization and clean-up of all promotions storage areas throughout the stadium.
5) Ensure completion of all participant waivers and necessary filing after all JetHawks home games.
6) Coordinate with the PA announcer, video wall announcer and producer and information booth personnel to ensure all personnel have necessary scripts, statistics and other information related to each home game.
7) Ensure all proper promotions sign-up boxes and information booth materials are in place for each home game.
8) Assist all game day sponsors in the placement of banners, booths or other materials throughout the stadium.
9) Will be responsible for taking photos of the nightly sponsors for the end of the season sponsorship proof of performance packages. One of the other interns will assist in the completion of this task.
